Foreword to the 4th Edition - 1999The theme for this, the fourth edition of International
Executive Development Programmes, is Adding Value through Executive
Development. Contributions addressing this theme were invited
from a number of Business Schools in Europe and North America and
together they amount to an impressive body of evidence that investment
in management development pays off. Preface to the 4th Edition - 1999Leadership has its greatest value in a time of rapid
change. Whatever we previously thought about the timing of business
cycles or market waves of change has almost all been replaced by
the acknowledgement of continuously occurring change. Against this
background of continuous change, it is now apparent that discontinuous
changes - very rapid shifts of paradigm - are prominent, if not
dominant How does one lead an organisation across the chasm of
discontinuous change? Education and Value CreationFor a society striving to improve its economy as well as the individual and social wellbeing of its members, creating 'future value' is a must. Education can substantially contribute to creating such value, as it aims to spread knowledge, competencies and skills. Author: Elio Borgonovi, SDA Bocconi, Italy Creating Value Through Executive EducationAs businesses are confronted by markets which are increasingly global in nature but less and less predictable, they need executives and managers who are capable of managing complex issues and of challenging the status quo. Companies' borders are themselves constantly being challenged by the numerous strategic alliances and organisations in ;he network. Moreover, intangible assets now have a central place in the strategic management of companies which are increasingly virtual in nature. Author: Bertrand Moingeon, HEC, Paris Creating Value Through Executive DevelopmentThe European Institute of Purchasing Management (EIPM), the Centre of Purchasing Excellence, has for its objective and main mission to promote the purchasing function in creating value through its Executive Development programmes. Author: Bernard Gracia, Director, European
Institute of Purchasing Management Strengthening Management Capabilities In The Developing World'Giordano Dell'Amore' Foundation's goal is to provide technical, professional and managerial training, technical assistance and advisory services in the fields of economics, finance and banking to government agencies and public and private entities of developing countries or to countries where institutional and economic changes require international support action. Author: “Giordano dell’Amore” Foundation Does Management Development Add Value? Both here in the UK and elsewhere, organisations are becoming more anxious to measure the value of executive development. It seems that the halcyon days of executive education for its own sake have passed, and those of us in the business of providing development are being called to task. The message is, 'Prove your worth, or we'll find another way.' Author: Keith Patching, Cranfield School of
